Bouncy Square
A downloadable game for Windows
Bouncy Square is inspired by Bouncy Ball, made by RAON Games for Android. You control a yellow square that's constantly bouncing and your goal is to collect all stars. The game features 12,5 different-themed episodes with many different puzzle elements and challenges, and a level editor. The controls are Left/Right Arrow to move and Space to use action.
It's one of the games I made with Ruby/Gosu long time ago, but never finished this one. The 13th episode is only half-finished, with last 2 levels copied from 14th episode. The game features many elements from Bouncy Ball, alongside some original elements. Some of the objects available in the editor were not yet implemented. The editor is not very user-friendly in general.
The game had potential as fun puzzle arcade game, but I stopped developing it at some point and now I don't plan to continue it. I had a bunch of great ideas that I didn't write down and forgotten. The content so far is pretty solid though; I replayed all available levels and past me did a good job with the design, though I was confused about intended solution of some levels. The 12th episode is particularly evil with difficulty. Note that
This new release is almost unchanged. I fixed some bugs that made the game unbeatable. I also sped up the square movement, because some levels required seemingly impossible precision. There are some minor bugs left and some jank, like the game plays with keyboard, but menu requires mouse. Also some episodes have backgrounds that make things difficult to see. And the "Learn" button in menu, which was supposed to explain game elements, was never implemented. I might do minor improvements if the game gains some interest.
Have fun ;)
The game borrows music from Pekka Kana 2, Terraria, Chrono Trigger, Lufia, FLaiL, Furry and Rayman 3.
